Small + Smart Kitchen

The Client

Being new homeowners and having JUST moved in, things were not so tidy. We started with the Discovery Call and Questionnaire. Then, we were able to take the before pictures of the space with an on-site discovery visit since they are local in Waukesha, WI.

The client has a dog and is a plant lover so we showed their puppy in the design and created plenty of space by the windows for plants!

The Goal

The goal was to update their kitchen but to also provide some sort of dining space. Their dining space was my opportunity to help them reminisce on their European honeymoon.

The Challenge

The challenge was finding the right microwave to handle natural gas and the BTU of the range. We chose a model by Whirlpool. Check it out HERE!

New hardwood floors, contemporary custom cabinetry, smart stainless steel appliances, terrazzo style counter tops, and 8” x 24” glossy blue tile backsplash resulted in a BIG IMPACT for this very small kitchen!

The Concept Board

After the Discovery Visit, we came up with a Concept that showed all of the appliances, fixtures, flooring, tile, counter top, cabinet stain, and paint colors.

The client wanted to get started with a Concept Board first before moving forward with the Virtual Design Package.

The Floor Plan

The layout stayed the same but we provided a New Cabinetry Plan with a numerical key on the Floor Plan. The cabinets changed to enhance the kitchen’s function.

The Renderings

The client’s were excited to see how an actual remodel would look given the selections they made in the concept and the new cabinet plan we recommended to them. In addition to the renderings, we followed up with the Virtual 360 that they were able to view in the VR headset!

The Virtual Tour

Let’s discuss the details.

Smart home technology has come a long way! For this small kitchen, there are several smart home aspects that give it that modern state-of-the-art feel.

However, smart home technology doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have voice-activation. Sometimes, clients choose to live without Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Please read on to find out how this kitchen includes smart home tech without the voice activation features.

The Faucet

The Align MotionSense Wave Chrome Pulldown Kitchen Faucet by Moen in Chrome finish offers hands-free convenience with its touchless technology.

The Microwave

This over-the-range microwave has a sleek low profile design with 400 CFM venting power which is enough to remove the smoke, odor, and moisture in this kitchen. Concealed touch controls, white LED display, sensor cooking, and a tap-to-open door technology made this microwave the perfect choice for this kitchen and the client cooking in it!

The Oven

The oven specified for this kitchen is GE Profile’s 30” Smart Slide-In Front-Control Gas Double Oven Convection Fingerprint Resistant Range! This oven is loaded with features such as the built-in WiFi so you can control the oven functions through the SmartHQ app on your smart device!

The Refrigerator

Some of the features include water & ice dispensing, full extension drawer, and ActiveSmart technology. This means foods are kept fresher for longer by maintaining the ideal temperature!

The Dishwasher

Miele’s dishwasher has a plethora of different features that include EcoFeedback, EcoPower Technology, MultiLingua, ComfortClose, and AutoOpen drying just to name a few! The term ‘AutoSensor Technology’ is used to summarize all of them. It basically has the ability to sense water temperature soil levels of your load, and water consumption. It is a remarkable dishwasher that is actually quite affordable in comparison to other models!
