Well, let’s start with your color theme.

Instead of opting for a visit to Sherwin Williams, you could work with your existing paint color. Let’s say, you have a color you are not happy with like a warm beige or a stark white. Good news! warm beige can be enhanced with warm tones from natural materials like wood, jute, and yes, even Christmas garland! Match the hue with a ribbon around your Christmas tree to give it even more balance! And, if you have stark white walls, remember, this is an empty canvas and you have more room for creativity!

Next, let’s talk about furniture.

Instead of opting for all new furniture, because let’s admit that will be very expensive, you can easily work around it. Most people just work with what they already have. But, let’s be real, there is a real trend going around for dark olive green furniture or even all black! The quick tip I have for you is to add some contrast! This kind of ties in with color theme. Basically, if you have a color that is going to match your walls or Christmas tree, you’ll want to contrast with reds or white and gold colors!

Let’s talk about year-round pieces.

These are the pieces that usually stay like the furniture. This is for area rugs, large, very large area rugs, that are less likely to be swapped out. And this goes for art pieces, curtains, and lighting. We will talk more about lighting later. Your area rug is almost like another wall application except for the floor. The bigger the area rug is, the more your eye will see it. You’ll want to position it underneath the front edges of furniture, first and foremost to keep from curling. As far as keeping what you have, you’ll be okay! Just accent around it. If you have bits of red, accent with red pillows and ribbon! If you have absolutely no color in it to tie in with holiday decor, try to contrast! Every color on the color wheel has an opposite! Work with that color’s opposite! Basically, what I am saying, is that there is ALWAYS a way to work around things and this is what I am so passionate about with my services! I’ll get to that a bit later!

Last but not least, let’s talk about lighting.

Everyone who decorates a Christmas tree, knows that there are lights to add on a Christmas tree. For easier convenience, opt for a pre-lit Christmas tree! There are a lot of options out there that range in cost and size. Did you know that there are products out there that have motion sensors that light your tree by motion? Find this product and more in my designs below! Lighting is so crucial to interior design that it is often overlooked. Lighting ranges with color temperature. Warm lighting helps a cooler snow globe environment like the midwest while cool lighting helps warmer climates achieve balance. Around the holidays, all you really need at nigth is the light from your tree and maybe your fireplace! Everything else is just decorative! 😉
